LGBTQI+ Adviser to the Bishop of Dover

Role Purpose

The LGBTQI+ Adviser supports the Bishop in promoting inclusion, pastoral sensitivity, and informed decision-making on matters relating to LGBTQI+ issues. The Adviser brings expertise, lived experience, or specialist knowledge to support the Bishop in shaping pastoral practice, policy understanding, and diocesan engagement. The Adviser also offers support and advice to clergy within the parish setting.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong understanding of the Church of England’s structures, culture, and theological diversity.
  • Insight into the lived experiences, challenges, and strengths within LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Commitment to the pastoral, missional, and safeguarding priorities of the Bishop and the diocese.
  • Excellent communication, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Theological training or a background in ministry (lay or ordained).
  • Familiarity with Living in Love and Faith (LLF) processes and ongoing national conversations.
  • Existing relationships with relevant networks or community groups.
