Priest-in-Charge

Two Churches in Maidstone are looking to share a Priest-in-Charge who can inspire, motivate and encourage spiritual growth.  St Nicholas’, Allington and St Paul’s, Maidstone are seeking a person who is creative and innovative to enable the continued growth in missional links with our communities; to equip and support the whole people of God to be more effective in reaching out to those within the parishes. Someone who is effective in engaging with children, young people and families, but still able to work across the generations that make up our two parishes.

The Ideal Candidate for our new Priest-in-Charge will be:

  • Missional:  with a clear heart for the Sacramental and the Gospel, having the skills and ability to equip the whole people of God to connect with those who have little or no contact with the Church in the parishes of St Nicholas’ and St Paul’s
  • A Team Player: across the two parishes, the new Priest-in-Charge will have a commitment to leading and equipping teamwork with lay leaders; to make a positive contribution to the Maidstone Deanery Mission Mosaic.
  • Pastoral at heart:  the new Priest-in-Charge will work most closely with the congregation of St Nicholas’ and St Paul’s to create a warm and welcoming space where individuals can grow in their faith and discipleship.  Commitment to care, trust and working together will be key in taking next steps in this mission work.
  • An open and a good listener; someone who is approachable and unafraid of questions (with a sense of humour), able to explain and make relevant the teachings of Jesus in an ever-changing world.
  • Courageous and Creative: ready to lead brave decision making and willing to engage in new ideas and projects which are innovative and pioneering.

Main Responsibilities

  • To work with the people of St Nicholas’ and St Paul’s to build a fruitful and sustainable future for the church through both traditional and new approaches to prayer, faith study and worship, and by building connections with the local community through events and social media and other technology.
  • To create, facilitate and support lay mission and worship teams which will build relationships with the people of the two parishes and help us create welcoming space for all individuals to grow in their faith, fostering a culture of intentional discipleship within our church, so that we may confidently share the Good News with others.
  • To offer support, resourcing and training for the whole People of God in engaging with the mission of God in the parishes and the Deanery.
  • To participate fully in all aspects of the collegiate ministry of the Maidstone Deanery and the Diocese.
  • To take full advantage of opportunities for personal and professional development.
