Social media guidelines

  1. Treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are allowed, but offensive language and hate speech are not.
  2. Bullying of any kind or degrading comments around the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 are not allowed.
  3. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links are not allowed.

As social media is such an informal platform, it can be harder to maintain a professional distance. When it comes to the vulnerable, children, and young people, it’s particularly important to approach communications carefully. Speaking with someone directly online is similar to meeting with them in private. For this reason, it can be sensible to share messages publicly, or try to send messages to groups rather than individuals. Please think carefully about adding someone to your personal social media network and avoid doing this with anyone under the age of 18 if you are in a church role of any kind, where possible. If unsure, you can reach out to the Diocesan Safeguarding Team at safeguarding@diocant.org.
