Statement from the Right Reverend Trevor Willmott, Bishop of Dover on the outcome of the GMC trial of Dr Richard Scott, Margate GP:

Following the news issued today (June 14) that the GMC have upheld the complaint against Margate GP, Dr Richard Scott of inappropriately discussing his Christian faith during a consultation with a patient. The Right Reverend Trevor Willmott, Bishop of Dover, has issued this statement:

Dr Richard Scott is a highly respected Doctor who has provided excellent care to patients in a Christian GP’s practice in Margate for many years. In an age where society is increasingly seeking answers to difficult questions, it is disappointing that a Christian Doctor is being punished for offering spiritual and pastoral insight that could help a patient. Dr Scott is entitled to his Christian views and it is wrong to expect a doctor to turn off those views when caring for a patient.”
