Places of worship demolished in Calais – Bishop’s message

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you to all of you who have donated funds to the Advent Appeal. So far more than £40,000 has been raised, for which I am hugely grateful. I am conscious at this time that our prayers are especially needed for those in Calais whose camp is being dismantled, particularly in light of the recent demolition of the Church and Mosque in that place.

Please also pray for wisdom and discernment as our Diocese seeks a way forward to use the appeal money to set up a post/ posts to serve people and engage with the issues surrounding the migration crisis.

Almighty and merciful God
whose Son became a refugee
and had no place to call his own;
Look with mercy on those who today
are fleeing from danger,
loveless and hungry.
Bless those who work to bring them relief;
inspire generosity and compassion in all our hearts;
and guide the nations of the world towards that day
when all will rejoice in your Kingdom of justice and peace.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord

Best wishes,

Bishop Trevor
