Eco Schools
For over 25 years Eco-Schools has been empowering children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness through the simple Seven-Step framework in order to achieve the international Eco-Schools Green Flag.
Land & green spaces
- School food production – how might your pupils engage in a gardening project to help grow some of your produce?
- Install a veg patch of your own - Rocket Gardens can help you get started
- Encourage the children to conduct Wildlife Audits
- Set-up a Bug Hotel in the school grounds
- Enter the Britain in Bloom competition
- Organise special walk and cycle to school reward schemes
- Create and post posters to raise awareness about littering, dog mess and car use
- Join UK Schools taking on climate change with Let's Go Zero 2030
Meetings, hospitality, food & waste
- Be conscious of how and where you source your food. What changes could you make to shop seasonally and locally?
- Recycle as much of the paper and plastics you use
- Follow the LOAF principle with your food: Local, Organic, Animal-friendly, Fairtrade.
- Grow your own – support projects such as Incredible Edible
- Compost your food waste - use it to grow more produce for use in the school kitchens
