Captain Stephen Plumb

stephenplumbThere has been a vision for a missioner to North Sittingbourne for a number of years. This desire gained momentum with the recognition that Fresh Expressions of church are required to meet the missional challenges the areas of Iwade, Kemsley, Milton Regis and Bobbing now present. The Church Commissioners in partnership with the Diocese and The Church Army, have appointed Capt. Stephen Plumb to this role. Stephen was licensed at Holy Trinity, Milton Regis on Thursday 11th March by Bishop Trevor.

Stephen writes:
I became a Christian aged 25, and joined the Church Army 3 years later and have served as a commissioned Evangelist for 20 years, in London, Rochester, Sheffield and most recently in Belfast. My experience includes Church Planting, developing new forms/expressions of Church, and developing missional communities.

I am married to Dawn, and we have four grown up children, and two grandchildren, who live in different places around England!

I see two distinct elements to my new role. Firstly I am called to live in the community and model a missional lifestyle, sharing faith in Jesus, seeking to practically love and serve others, that people may experience the gospel and be drawn into a new community of faith. With this in mind my wife and I are currently looking for a house in the Iwade/Kemsley area, which will be home, but also provide a base for the first missional cell. Finding a home in the area is not as easy as it sounds, so we welcome your help and prayers.

The second element of my role will be that of mission enabler, working with existing churches/Christians in the community, helping them as they seek to be more effective in sharing their faith in Jesus in a culturally relevant way.

It is hoped that through these partnerships, confidence in sharing faith will grow, and many new models of engaging in mission will emerge.

My passions in ministry must be sharing faith with those who don’t yet know Jesus, helping the church be relevant, Holy Spirit prayer ministry, and overseas mission particularly taking teams to Rwanda.

In my spare time, I like playing squash, jogging and cooking!
