Sarah Carruthers joined Diocesan House in January as HR Adviser. Sarah is employed by the National Archbishops’ Council to provide a human resources service in relation to clergy within Canterbury Diocese
My role is a brand new post providing advice and support on the implementation of new legislation which affects the clergy within our diocese, referred to as The Clergy Terms of Service. There will be challenges as it is a change to some of the principles and assumptions that govern the way we work, but the life of the local church will not be disturbed and the work of mission and ministry will not change.
I have grown up within the Canterbury Diocese and live in Dover so am committed to doing the best job I can for the oldest Diocese in the Church of England. I have worked for both the NHS and KCC in HR positions but was attracted to this post because it will be an exciting opportunity to provide a local Clergy HR service in Canterbury. I look forward to learning more about the ethos, language and culture of the Church.
From my working experiences I will be able to provide professional human resources advice to enable all clergy to do what they are trained and called for, ministering in both today’s and tomorrow’s Church. I am part time (Wednesday – Friday) and can be contacted at Diocesan House in Canterbury Tel: 01227 459401, Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
