Murray Wilkinson has been appointed the diocesan Children and Young People’s Ministry Adviser.
Murray will be working full time within the Board of Education to provide support and advice to the diocese. He looks forward to supporting parish workers, working with deaneries and encouraging ministry and mission with children and young people in all kinds of different contexts.
Born and raised in South Africa, Murray and his wife Gina moved to the UK at the end of 2004 to work and travel around Europe. They have a daughter, Emma, who is just two and another baby Wilkinson on the way in early November.
Murray has been involved in Youth and Children’s Ministry for over ten years, initially as a volunteer, then employed in a Methodist Church in Cape Town as a Youth Pastor and most recently has been the full time Youth & Children’s Worker at All Saints Church in Brenchley, Kent. Murray is a science graduate and is passionate about encouraging children and young people to engage in a journey of discipleship with their heads, hearts and hands. He dreams of a church, a diocese and parishes that embrace both the depth of tradition and the excitement of the new.
Murray will begin in early October and will spend much of his first weeks getting to know the people and places of Canterbury Diocese. In time he hopes to be an active and affective support for those in ministry with children and young people, whether voluntary or employed, Sunday School Leader or Youth Club helper; with training, advice, a sympathetic ear and in return a voice for the children and young people of the Diocese.
