Hi! I’m Jo Robertson and I have recently come to be the Parish Priest (House-for-Duty) for Wingham with Elmstone and Preston with Stourmouth. This group of churches is part of the Ash Cluster and in East Bridge Deanery.
I have only been in post since the beginning of May but already feel at home in such a beautiful part of Kent. Everyone has been so welcoming and I’m loving the homemade goodies that seem to be an integral part of village life – thankfully I’m doing a lot of walking so the weight might remain stable!
Before moving here I lived in Folkestone and served as part of the Trinity Benefice Team. We have kept our home there and, as this position is part-time, I use Folkestone as a bolt-hole to make sure I take time off and Bishop Trevor was right to encourage this because my ministry could easily fill a week – simply because it is such a wonderful place.
Before ordination I was a teacher, with my last post being as Head of Middle School and Science teacher at Folkestone School for Girls. At times I miss the buzz of the classroom but with two schools within the parishes I still have contact with education and have grown to love being with the younger children and have learnt songs I never knew existed – great fun!
I’m married to Malcolm and have two grown-up children, a grandson and another expected early October. So, in a nutshell, life is good!
