Get your breakfast on for ‘Kent is Delicious’ 2017

Open to all Primary school-aged children in Kent, this fabulous food and cookery competition aims to raise children’s awareness of the quality and importance of local and seasonal produce in Kent.
“We had an absolutely fabulous day and would encourage any school to get involved!” Ms Lynda King Herne C of E Junior School, Finalists

Hear what this year’s winners had to say:

Schools are this year invited to create a tasty breakfast dish using as many local grown, produced or sourced ingredients as possible. Show us how you developed your recipe, what you found out about local ingredients, the local producers you discovered and met on the way, and how seasonality influenced the ingredients you chose. Entries are also welcome from Beaver, Cub and Brownie groups.

By building the competition into your school’s curriculum or activities schedule, Kent is Delicious is a ready-made way to fulfil KS1 and KS2 food and practical cookery curriculum requirements, and offers children the chance to learn team building, research and character skills. All with a chance to win prizes at the same time.

New for 2017 – Kent is Delicious Accompaniers

New for this year, we’re also delighted to be able to offer schools a visit from a local food and farming expert to help you kick start your ideas and accompany you as you plan your entry. If you would be interested in a visit from a Kent is Delicious accompanier, please email kentisdelicious@diocant.org with your request.

Process and Prizes

Up to four finalist schools will be chosen to cook their dish at the Kent County Show in July 2017, which will then be judged at the show by a prestigious panel of local producers and farmers. A first prize of £300, and two runners-up prizes of £100 will be given in vouchers to put towards cookery or gardening projects in your school. Every finalist will also receive £50 of Kent Farmers’ Market Association to spend on a tasty hamper of food at their local farmers’ market
