This is the annual Safeguarding Conference which this year is on the theme of ‘Getting the Message Across’. The conference is open to everybody but is especially relevant to those in parishes responsible for overseeing and coordinating Safeguarding and DBS.

This year there will be a choice of two workshops:

“Child Protection in Religious Organisations and Communities” led by Professor David Shemmings OBE

Professor David Shemmings OBE PhD is Professor of Child Protection Research at the University of Kent, UK and Visiting Professor of Child Protection Research at Royal Holloway, University of London. David is the author of over 70 articles, books and chapters on relationally-based social work theory, research and practice. He is co-Director of Attachment and Relationship-based Practice training in over 40 child protection organisations across the UK and Europe. He is also co-Director of the online International Centre for Child Protection at the University of Kent. David was awarded an OBE for Services to Child Protection in the June 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

“Increasing our understanding of vulnerable adults. How Kent Police work with hate and mate crime” led by Dan Mimran, Kent Police.

Dan Mimran is a Vulnerable Adult Intervention Officer from the Kent Police Canterbury Community Safety Unit. His workshop will be on his remit and those of his colleagues within Kent Police. He will focus on our increasing understanding of the impact upon vulnerable people of hate crime and mate crime. Dan joined Kent Police in 2007 as a Police Community Support Officer and has worked in numerous towns across Kent before coming to Canterbury.
