Back in 1977, Thanet Male Voice Choir only had 12 members, but now there are more than 70 names on the books, with internationally acclaimed actress Brenda Blethyn as Honorary President. The choir has travelled throughout England, Wales and the rest of Europe, including a performance in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and has raised large sums of money for charitable causes, as well as being in great demand to sing at weddings. The choir’s Musical Director, Martin Rendle, has his own teaching studio in St Nicholas-at-Wade, but also performs regularly both in the UK and overseas with companies such as Glyndebourne, European Chamber Opera, London City Opera, Opera Box and Columbia Artists. The choir has been ably accompanied since 1999 by Deborah Longley, who also accompanies and sings with the Seventy Chamber Choir and Thanet Festival Choir, as well as teaching piano, clarinet and music theory.iCal
