Friends Meeting House
The Discipleship and Spirituality Forum brings together people who work resourcing discipleship and spirituality in East Kent and is a great opportunity to network and share our ministries together. The Forum has met annually over the past two years. One of the key messages that came out of our discernment with the Forum last April was the need for our churches to learn how to be alongside children and young people as disciples together. How do we resource churches to listen deeply to what Christ is calling us to hear through children and young people in our wider church communities?
At the Forum for 2015, at the Friends Meeting House in Canterbury, we are taking some time to think about how we can encourage this listening with the people we serve. The forum will meet at 10am (refreshments will be served from 9.30am) and will run until 2.00pm and will include lunch. During the day two local speakers will give us food for thought and challenges for our journeys.
Ronni Lamont, author of the acclaimed book on children’s spirituality, Understanding Children Understanding God, as well as experienced trainer of church leaders in specialisms including creativity and innovation, children’s spirituality and pastoral training, will open the Forum with a talk on the theme: ‘Is discipleship possible at any age?’. Ronni’s research and each of our own experiences tell us that children have an innate spirituality. Her talk will consider how children are capable of spiritual formation and expression- how are we enabling them to be fellow pilgrims?
Shelly King, a tutor with Encounter, the London Course in Spiritual Direction as well as a Spiritual Accompaniment Advisor for the Canterbury Diocese will address topics concerning faith in the second half of life. What are the challenges that growing older may present to faith journeys and how aging can allow a deepening of spirituality, faith, and discipleship. To what extent do we need to rediscover our early life modes of learning to grow in maturity of faith?
Please do suggest to others sharing your ministry or in your organisation to think about coming along, too.
