Kent is Delicious Cookery Competition – 2018

It’s often said that getting young people involved in cooking is the best way to get them interested in their food. Our cookery competition championing the fantastic produce available in Kent seeks to do just that.

Who can take part?

Open to all primary-school aged children in Kent, the Kent is Delicious Cookery Competition is easy for any primary or junior school, home-school group, or Rainbow, Cub or Scout pack to get involved with.

What do you need to do?

To take part, all you need to do is create a breakfast recipe that uses as many local and seasonal ingredients as possible – you can enter a group of up to four children. View our entry guide here

What else do you need to know?

As part of your entry, we’ll want you to tell us what you found out about local ingredients, the local producers you discovered and met on the way, and how seasonality influenced the ingredients you chose.  Submit your entry here

Why take part?

A survey by the British Nutrition Foundation last year showed that nearly a third of the five to seven-year-olds they asked thought that cheese came from a plant!

With so much confusion among young people about where their food comes from, Kent is Delicious is a really fun way for children to get hands-on with their food, have fun working as a team, and learn about the food all around them.

With a 1st prize of £300, 2 runners-up prizes of £100* for a cookery or gardening project, and a chance to cook at the Kent County Show up for grabs, it’s well worth stepping up to the ‘hot’ plate to get involved.
