Janet Bates (Rochester)
I am a BACP Senior accredited counsellor. My approach to Counselling is humanistic, drawing mainly on person-centred therapy and Transactional Analysis; I am also trained in advanced CBT skills as well as ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). I worked as a university counsellor for 10 years and then as Head of Counselling at Burrswood, a Christian hospital, before leaving to work as a counsellor for a large police service. I have now returned to my nursing roots and work in a hospital setting as a counsellor in oncology and palliative care.
I work with individuals presenting with a wide range of issues affecting their work or personal life, which may include bereavement, stress, depression, trauma, sexuality/gender or relationship issues. I have a special interest in occupational stress and particularly that affecting clergy and their families. I am an active member of the Church of England.
