Children and Communion

In 2006, General Synod published regulations that enable churches to gain their Bishop’s permission to admit baptised children to receive communion before confirmation (Canon B15A).

Then and now, churches in the Diocese of Canterbury are encouraged to explore this question for themselves. There is a process set out by the Regulations, which asks PCC’s to come to a decision and to then seek permission from the Bishop. The Children & Young People’s Ministry Adviser would welcome any opportunity to help PCCs to explore this question, and hopefully help them to go on to develop suitable preparation programmes and Eucharistic services that include all members of the family of God. Bishop Trevor will gladly consider any request from a PCC to admit baptised children to receive communion before confirmation provided that the PCC has discussed it and that a good and accessible preparation programme is in place.

Murray would welcome any opportunity to help PCCs to explore this question, and hopefully help them to go on to develop suitable preparation and Eucharistic services that include all members of the family of God.
