Bishop Trevor launches Week of Prayer at Deal Foodbank

On Tuesday 1 April, the Bishop of Dover, the Right Reverend Trevor Willmott visited Deal Foodbank to launch a Diocesan week of prayer for social action projects that help vulnerable people. The week of prayer which starts on Sunday 6 April and finishes on Palm Sunday, 13 April has been initiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and the Cardinal Archbishop of the Catholic Church, Vincent Nichols, who ask Christians across the country to join in praying for the work done by Christians that serves those in need and strengthens their communities.

Entitled ‘Listen to God: hear the poor’, the Archbishops’ hope is that this initiative will not only give glory to God by fostering the work of the Kingdom, but will also support, encourage and inspire local church members who give so much to their local communities.

Bishop Trevor, who spoke to some of the 94 volunteers involved in the project, described the work of Deal Foodbank as ‘extraordinary’.

He commented: “The Diocese of Canterbury is committed to working with others to provide help and support to vulnerable people. The Deal Foodbank, which is run through the Trussell Trust with the support of local churches and dozens of volunteers, is an excellent example of how Christians can make a difference to local people when they are in need.

“During the week of prayer hope we can achieve connections by listening to God and by serving people. I would be delighted for people to join me with a simple prayer, asking God to use us to let his light, his love and his hope be shown to people who are in need in our society.”
