Archbishop Justin to join mission and evangelism week in Sittingbourne
The Most Revd Justin Welby will spend a week assisting the Sittingbourne Deanery in its outreach, mission and evangelism from 20 – 26 March.
One of Archbishop Justin’s three priorities is the work of mission and evangelism – that every church and Christian is enabled to share their faith in Jesus with those around them. This mission week, organised by local churches across the Isle of Sheppey and Sittingbourne area, aims to share the good news of Jesus Christ with all.
Archbishop Justin will spend Holy Week (the week leading up to Easter Day) visiting community projects, groups, schools and Christians in Sittingbourne, encouraging them in sharing faith through worship, service and evangelism.
“If the Christian faith is to have any authenticity it must be rooted in real human communities,” he said. “We believe in a world-transforming God and Easter is a time to reflect on God’s generosity to all humankind. I am excited to be spending Holy Week with such a wide range of people, hearing about their faith and how they help to share God’s love in their context.”
During his time in the deanery, Archbishop Justin will visit schools, youth and community groups as well as sharing in worship with different congregations. Members of the media are particularly invited to attend a March of Witness taking place on Good Friday (25 March) in Sittingbourne – contact Anna Drew for more details.
The Archbishop will be joined in his visit by members of the Community of St Anselm, who will be staying in different parts of the deanery and participating in the events.
