Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools (SIAS)

The SIAS process has been devised by the National Society to standardise inspection practices and judgements in all Church of England Schools and to meet the requirements of Section 48 of the Education Act 2005

SIAS/S48 judges the distinctiveness of the school as a Church of England school and aims to help schools improve as church schools

The main focus is in the outcomes, ie the impact of provision rather than the provision itself

    There are four key questions:

    1. How well does the school, through its distinctive Christian character, meet the needs of all learners?
    2. What is the impact of collective worship on the school community?
    3. How effective is the religious education?
    4. How effective are the leadership and management of the school as a church school

You can find copies of all published SIAS reports for Church of England schools on the Church of England web site: www.churchofengland.org/education/national-society/statutory-inspection-of-anglican-schools-(sias)-reports.aspx

A revised framework for this inspection process has been in place since September 2009.

The documents provided here will support you in ensuring that you have addressed the issues highlighted in your last inspection report and in preparing for the next inspection.
