Four New Honorary Canons announced

The Bishop of Dover, The Right Reverend Trevor Willmott has announced the appointment of four new Honorary Canons of Canterbury Cathedral.

Honorary Canons have a stall in the Cathedral and are asked to pray specifically for the life and work of the Cathedral within the City and Diocese. They also become members of the Cathedral Foundation.

The four new Honorary Canons are:

The Reverend Caroline Rosamund Pinchbeck - Priest in Charge of Eastling, St Mary, Stalisfield w Otterden and Diocesan Rural Life Adviser until 7th May. Caroline has recently been appointed Executive Officer of the Communities and Partnership framework and will continue her work as Diocesan Rural Life Adviser. Caroline was ordained in 2002.

The Reverend Andrew William Sewell - Priest in Charge of Maidstone St Paul and Area Dean of Maidstone since July 2010. Andrew was ordained in 1993.

The Reverend Timothy Charles Wilson - Vicar of Great Chart, St Mary with Singleton since 2003. Tim was ordained in 1990 and is about to take on the role as Area Dean of Ashford.

The Reverend Canon Jeremy Frederick Worthen - Principal of SEITE (South East Institute of Theological Education) since 2005 and a Wiccamical Prebendary of Chichester Cathedral since 2009. Jeremy was ordained in 1994.

Commenting on the appointment of the four honorary canons by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Bishop Trevor said: "Caroline, Andrew, Tim and Jeremy, have each made significant contributions to the mission and the life of the Diocese, community and wider church. I am delighted they have accepted the invitation to become Honorary Canons of Canterbury Cathedral.

A service of installation for the new Canons will take place early in the Autumn. Members of the Cathedral Foundation, colleagues, family and friends will be invited along with people from the parishes or areas of work they represent.

The office of Honorary Canon dates back to 1840 and a maximum of 30 Honorary Canons of Canterbury may hold an appointment at any one time.
