November 22nd 2010 Bishop to 'cut turf' for Archbishop Courtenay Church of England Primary School's new buildingThe Bishop of Dover, the Right Reverend Trevor Willmott will take part in a special turf cutting ceremony to mark the start of construction work on a new building for Archbishop Courtenay Church of England Primary School. The ceremony, which takes place on Monday 29 November at 10.45am, will also be attended by staff and pupils and KCC Deputy Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, Councillor Gary Cooke. Since Archbishop Courtenay Church of England Primary School was formed in 2005 through the amalgamation of All Saints and St. Stephens Church of England schools, the Governing Body has been working towards plans for a new integrated school. The new school in Eccleston Road will replace the current split site buildings in College Road. With ten classrooms, a nursery facility and a 'Godly Play area' the new school is due to open early in 2012. Head Teacher Mrs Louise Stubberfield commented: "Pupils and staff are very excited that work on the new building is now underway. The new building will provide a modern, spacious and environmentally friendly school that we can all be proud of. We cannot wait for it to open in two years time!" Local firm, Mansells have been appointed as the building contractors for the environmentally friendly £6.3M building. With ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and a rainwater harvesting system, the state-of-the-art building will be constructed with external insulation and under-floor heating. Sensors and automatic opening windows will be installed to maximise natural ventilation. The building project is being funded by a direct grant from the Department for Education, with additional funding from KCC, Canterbury Diocese's Mission Initiatives fund and a local trust. Ends Media are invited to the ceremony on November 29th, 10.45am at Eccleston Road, Tovil.
