  • Bishop Trevor meets local people on his deanery visits

    The new Bishop of Dover, the Right Revd Trevor Willmott has started touring the diocese with the aim of meeting communities and building up a picture of life in each deanery of Kent.
    The Bishop’s visits have included:

    • East Bridge: Meeting pupils at Bridge and Patrixbourne CofE Primary and receiving a briefing on regeneration plans for Aylesham.
    • Sittingbourne: Officially opening the Abbey Family Unit at Sheppey Acadmey and meeting the public in the café at Sainsburys (pictured)
    • Thanet: Visiting the Marlowe Academy. touring the new build and meeting pupils at St George’s CofE Secondary school and visiting Ramsgate port and Transeuropa ferries
    • Elham: Sharing a lesson with pupils at the Folkestone Academy, meeting volunteers at the Rainbow Centre and helping to pack clothes for Africa at Operation Sunshine
    • Tenterden: Visiting Benenden Primary School and a state-of-the-art milking parlour in Biddenden

    Bishop Trevor’s monthly video message
    In his latest video message, Bishop Trevor reflects on the challenge of prayer and the need to open oneself to God through prayer. www.canterburydiocese.org/multimedia/video/bishoptrevor/index.htm
    The Bishop’s video message is issued at the end of each month through the new Canterbury e-bulletin. The e-bulletin also contains news from the diocese and parishes, a section on ‘meet a colleague’, book reviews, training events and ‘what’s on’ along with case studies of parishes in the monthly ‘Focus On’ section.

    Bishop Trevor installed as Bishop of Dover at Canterbury Cathedral.
    The Right Reverend Trevor Willmott was installed as the new Bishop of Dover at a special service in Canterbury Cathedral on Saturday.
    Around 1,000 people attended the service including the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, the Mayor of Canterbury and leaders from many faiths. During the service, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, handed over delegated responsibility for the Diocese of Canterbury to Bishop Trevor, who was previously the Bishop of Basingstoke.
    Bishop Trevor will spend his first few weeks in post meeting local communities in the 16 deaneries which make up the diocese of Canterbury.
