Four new Readers licensed by
Bishop of Dover
On Sunday 18th July, four new Readers were admitted and licensed by the Bishop of Dover at a special service in Canterbury Cathedral.
Speaking at the service, Bishop Trevor called for 400 more people to become Readers in the Diocese. Readers are lay people in the Church of England, from all walks of life, trained and licensed by the Church to preach, teach, lead worship and assist in pastoral, evangelistic and liturgical work.
During the service, Paul Jarvis received a Bishop's license for St Nicholas, Ash with Westmarsh & Holy Cross Goodnestone & All Saints, Chillenden and Reader Mavis Smith was welcomed from another diocese to St John's Hospital, Canterbury. Jean Chamberlain of Holy Trinity was also granted Reader Emeritus.
