Prayers and Support for Christchurch, New Zealand
Bishop Trevor is calling on parishes in the diocese to pray for the people of New Zealand following the earthquake in Christchurch. Bishop Trevor also suggests congregations may like to organise a retiring collection to help fund the relief effort.

Service for the new Archdeacon of Ashford
The welcoming and collation of the Venerable Philip Down as the first Archdeacon of Ashford will take place in the Cathedral Quire on Sunday 13 March 2011 at 3.15pm with tea and cakes served in the Chapter House afterwards. 24/7 Live it! - 160 parishes registered to be part of the Year of Discipleship
Over 60% of parishes have now indicated they are participating in the 24/7 year of discipleship.
Early resources, including the 'Confident Discipleship' Lent Course, and the first postcard and video telling Nicola's story, are being used across the diocese.

Archbishop to discuss Narnia in Lent Lectures
The Archbishop, Dr Rowan Williams, will discuss the popular Narnia stories of C.S.Lewis in his 2011 Lent Lectures. The lectures entitled: 'Not a tame lion', 'I only tell you your own story' and 'Bigger inside than outside' take place on Monday 18 April, Tuesday 19 April and Wednesday 20 April, at Canterbury Cathedral 7.30pm. Free.

Chrism Eucharist
All clergy and Readers are invited to join one of the Chrism Eucharist services to be held in the Cathedral during Holy Week.     Training in the skills of supervision within the ministry of Spiritual Direction
    A course for those who have experience of giving spiritual direction and want to use their experience to supervise others with the reverend Andrew Walker, an Anglican priest, trained Psychosynthesis counsellor and director of the three year London based Ignatian Spirituality Programme.

    Informing mission and ministry with historical perspectives
    Lambeth Palace on Thursday 7 April 2011, 10.00am - 2.00pm
    Aimed specifically at senior clergy and those with a training and development role in dioceses bordering London, the event looks at the ways in which historical perspective and awareness of major social trends can inform the identity, mission, ministry and strategy of dioceses and individual parishes in the present. Speakers include Grace Davie (author of Believing without Belonging) and members of the 'Building on History' project www.open.ac.uk/buildingonhistory, which since 2009 has worked alongside with the Diocese of London to inform its contemporary life with historical understanding.

    Canterbury Carmelite Spirituality Group
    A new initiative has been established, where Christians from across the denominations can learn and grow together in prayer and the Christian life from a Carmelite perspective. The group meets at Age Concern Canterbury.

    PCC Treasurer offers PAT Testing
    PAT testing, (the inspection and testing of electrical appliances) helps to ensure that electric items are safe to use. Regular inspection and testing is now a requirement by most insurance companies.

    Exploring "The Road Less Travelled"

    Diocesan Chapter of the Society of Catholic Priests
    The Society of Catholic Priests, an international fellowship of 'liberal-catholic' clergy who meet in local chapters (scp.org.uk). Chapters support men and women in their priestly service of God within the Anglican Communion. Local meetings take place bi-monthly.

    Modern Mission in Africa

    The Ecclesiastical Ministry Bursary Awards Scheme for 2012 -
    applications now open

    Ecclesiastical has this month handed out cheques totalling more than £50,000 to fund a number of clergy projects through its annual Ministry Bursary Awards scheme. The scheme aims to give financial support to members of the clergy to carry out personal development projects during sabbaticals.
    Applications for 2012 grants will be open from 10 January until 30 September 2011.

    Wolfson Grants available for Fabric repairs
    The Church Buildings Council administers applications for grants from the Wolfson Foundation, towards fabric repairs to Anglican Churches. Applications for grants are considered on the grounds of the architectural and historic importance of this building (usually Grade 1), urgency of work required and the ability of the church to contribute financially to the scheme.     Damaris' Lent course consists of five sessions from the book 'Get More Like Jesus While Watching TV'. The leader's guide, consisting of a pdf with handouts and Powerpoint files, can be downloaded for free from: www.damaris.org/lent

    Treasures of Heaven
    Treasures of Heaven will feature objects drawn from church treasuries across Europe, museums in the USA, and the British Museum's own collection and bring together 150 of the finest sacred treasures of the medieval age, not seen in such significant numbers in the UK since the Reformation of the 16th century. Objects on display include three thorns said to be from the Crown of Thorns, fragments of the True Cross, the rib of St Peter, and the Mandylion of Edessa.
