Diocesan Synod vote on Women Bishops' legislation
On May 7th Canterbury Diocesan Synod debated and voted on the draft legislation for Women in the Episcopacy and the Parish Share Review. Before Synod a special Eucharist was held in the Cathedral during which time new officers and chairs were welcomed into post, along with the new Commissary General, Morag Ellis QC.

Poverty and Hope Appeal - final call for funds
The 2010-11 Poverty and Hope Appeal is raising money for children and young people in need overseas. Ali Duguid, Appeal Director, says: "The appeal is now at the end of its run, so please, could any final money be collected as soon as possible and sent to us? This will enable us to apportion the final amounts of money to the various projects we supported. We will of course be letting you know the final totals as soon as we can."

Articles of Enquiry
Following the Visitations at the Cathedral, the Archdeacons have now written to Churchwardens with the 'Articles of Enquiry' - an annual survey related to the responsibilities of churchwardens and PCCs in our diocese, the answers of which help the Archdeacons to make available the services most needed. The article is available as an online survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GF7P7KQ or as a hard copy. The survey closing date is June 30th.

Moving Forward Together in the Diocese

Loerrach 2011
In October there will be a visit to Loerrach, a region south of the Black Forest in Germany on the banks of the Rhine with which our diocese is linked. We shall be staying with local families and in the wonderful Schloss Beuggen. Part of the visit will be in conference with our friends from Loerrach and from Berlin-Zossen, where themes around ministry and discipleship will be discussed. Bishop Trevor will be accompanying the group. The dates are Thursday 20th to Wednesday 26th October, and the invitation is open to anyone from the diocese. "Falklands Bishop" becomes honorary Assistant Bishop
The Right Reverend Dr Stephen Venner, the previous Bishop of Dover, has joined the group of sixteen retired bishops who serve as Honorary Assistants in the Diocese in Europe. These bishops with special connections to the Diocese are able to offer occasional assistance to the full-time Diocesan and Suffragan bishops who have a full schedule which involves frequent travelling around Europe.

Training in the skills of supervision within the ministry of Spiritual Direction
A course for those who have experience of giving spiritual direction and want to use their experience to supervise others with the Reverend Andrew Walker, an Anglican priest, trained Psychosynthesis counsellor and director of the three year London based Ignatian Spirituality Programme.

Training workshops for Parish Officers
These workshops aim to help: Churchwardens - PCC Secretaries - PCC Treasurers, learn about their roles and legal responsibilities in the context of current legislation and Diocesan policies.
Parish Officers will receive information about the Diocesan structure and the availability of Central Services which can support them in their roles. It is also an opportunity to meet fellow parish officers from around the Diocese and to share ideas and experience. These courses have been consistently well received and appreciated by those who have attended them in the past.

Spiritual Accompaniment
Responding to the need to support both ordained and lay ministers in a deeper awareness of the presence of God in their lives. Applications are invited for a third programme of spiritual accompaniment training to begin early in 2012, offered jointly by Canterbury and Rochester dioceses.
Year 1 of the two-year programme takes place over six Saturdays on a roughly bi-monthly schedule. An application form, supporting letters and a Programme Brochure which describes the (current) course, with dates and venues, is available at: www.canterburydiocese.org/spiritualaccompaniment

The 2010-11 ALM student year is rapidly drawing to a close, during which 57 people from 35 parishes / benefices will have completed training to support parish ministry. In 2011-12 we will be offering training at 5 locations across the diocese:

Young Volunteers needed for Cathedral Camps
An army of young volunteers are needed to spend part of their summer holidays camping at some of the nation's Cathedrals to preserve and protect them as part of CSV's Cathedral Camps volunteering summer tour. Run by UK volunteering charity CSV, the programme is open to those who are 16-25 years old. The Canterbury Cathedral camp takes place: 10-17 August. Kent God's Acre Project Churchyard Awards 2011
Kent God's Acre Project has again sponsored the Wildlife Churchyard award, one category of the Kent Wildlife Trust Gardening Awards. There will be Gold, Silver and Bronze awards made for the best wildlife churchyard in Kent. This has been sponsored by the Kent God's Acre Project. Visit to St. Catherine's Monastery, Mount Sinai and the Desert Monasteries
The Revd Julia Butterworth of Canterbury is hoping to go on this pilgrimage in October in order to see the very earliest Christian icons and the places where the desert fathers and mothers lived. A tour group has just come back saying it is perfectly safe and they were warmly welcomed, but people seem hesitant to join. Julia says: "It would be marvellous if more people from this diocese could come - it will be my second visit so you can see how keen I am!" 'Out of the Original Sacred Tongues': The Bible and Translation

This year is the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. Lambeth Palace Library is celebrating this anniversary with an enlightening exhibition entitled 'Out of the Original Sacred Tongues'. Following its own sell-out 400th anniversary exhibition last year, this is another opportunity for the public to see some of Lambeth Palace Library's remarkable collections, displayed in the magnificent Great Hall at Lambeth Palace, Lambeth Palace Road, London SE1 7JU. Anne Frank lesson plan to celebrate 82nd birthday
The Anne Frank Trust UK will celebrate its twentieth anniversary and teenage Holocaust victim Anne Frank's 82nd birthday on Sunday 12 June by distributing a lesson plan to schools across the country. The lesson plan can be downloaded free from the Trust's website http://www.annefrank.org. and students will be given the opportunity to sign the Anne Frank Declaration, joining many thousands of others who have included Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan and Nelson Mandela. A Rocha UK Launches 2011 Environment Resource Pack
22 April 2011, Southall - A Rocha UK, the Christian environmental and nature conservation charity, has announced the launch of its 2011 Environment Resource Pack. Entitled 'Just Food?'.
