Canon Ron Diss

Principal of SEITE moves into Diocesan House
The Revd Canon Jeremy Worthen who is the Principal of the South East Institute of Theological Education (SEITE) has recently moved into an office at Diocesan House. The move will enable the diocese to work closely and collaboratively in all the areas of ministry training that SEITE are providing.

The retreat is an opportunity to relax, be pampered, eat chocolate, enjoy great food, surroundings and facilities and to take some time out to reflect with others on the work you're doing as well as learn some new skills to help you develop it in the future. There'll be plenty of time to meet with God and each other as well as time to relax. Be brave and ask your church to consider treating you to a weekend away! They will benefit in the long run.

The Revd Professor Paul Bradshaw is Professor of Liturgy at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, and divides his time between America and London. He is an international scholar and author in the field of liturgy, and serves on the Church of England's Liturgical Commission.
Christopher Irvine, Canon Librarian at Canterbury Cathedral, has spent most of his ministry in theological education. He is a Consultant to the Liturgical Commission; contributes to the teaching of Liturgy on SEITE, and is Director of KCME. He edited 'Celebrating the Easter Mystery' (Mowbray, 1996) and more recently published 'The Use of Symbols in Worship' (SPCK, 2007).

Exploring a Calling to Spiritual Accompaniment
We aim to develop a group of both lay and ordained practitioners who are called to the ministry of the spiritual accompaniment of others. Training for the two year programme will take place over six Saturdays in year 1: (February 12th, April 16th, June 11th, September 10th, October 29th and December 10th).

Spirituality and Well-being seminars
A series of seminars on 'Spirituality and Well-being' are being held in Sittingbourne and Canterbury. Facilitated by Hospital Chaplain Pam Beckinsale, the seminars will be helpful for clergy, ministry leaders, childen's leaders, carers, health professionals and anyone interested in the connection between spirituality and well being.

Liturgical Dance Events
Liturgical Dance is an enjoyable, healing and uplifting experience. Heike Podger demonstrates simple dance steps to slow Baroque or Taize Music and prayers are read in between the dances. Liturgical Dance Events will take place in the Eastern Crypt of Canterbury Cathedral from 12noon to 1.30pm on the following Mondays: 21 February, 9 May, 26 September, 21 November 2011.

Lyme Regis Organ School
A newly formed organ school is holding its inaugural Winter Workshop from 24 - 26 February 2011 using the Skrabl organ recently installed in St Michael's, Lyme Regis, Dorset. This first residential event is aimed at organists of any age and level of attainment. Its focus will be on music for Holy Week and Easter. There will be group workshops, individual teaching, demonstration and a full length organ recital. Accommodation will be arranged in the delightful town of Lyme Regis.

Message from Ecclesiastical about the new 20% VAT
Following the increase to the rate of Value Added Tax (VAT) from 17.5% to 20%, Ecclesiastical have announced they will increase the sums insured for all church buildings, currently in use for worship, to reflect the new level of VAT, from 4 January 2011 without any additional charge.
Wolfson Grants available for Fabric repairs
The Church Buildings Council administers applications for grants from the Wolfson Foundation, towards fabric repairs to Anglican Churches. Applications for grants are considered on the grounds of the architectural and historic importance of this building (usually Grade 1), urgency of work required and the ability of the church to contribute financially to the scheme. Big Lottery Fund launches £75m grants scheme for buildings
The Big Lottery Fund is opening a £75m community buildings grants programme for voluntary organisations and parish and town councils in England. Not-for-profit groups will be able to apply for sums of between £100,000 and £500,000 each from the BLF's Reaching Communities programme from early December. Proposed Law Changes for using Commercial Sound Recordings
Proposed changes to the licensing laws regarding the use of commercial sound recordings (CDs, cassettes etc) in churches are due to come into effect from 1st January 2011. Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) understands that the new laws, enforced by Phonographic Performance Ltd, will probably not affect churches until January 2012.
