Diocesan Synod to discuss the Anglican Communion Covenant and 'Welcome' - February 4th, Ashford

Archbishop Rowan's Lent Lectures
Archbishop Rowan will be giving three lectures during Holy Week on 'St Paul: the Man and the Letters'. Titles will be (i) Outsiders and Insiders: Paul's Social World; (ii) The Universal Welcome: Paul's Disturbing Idea; (iii) The New Creation: Paul's Christian Universe. The Lectures take place in the Nave of Canterbury Cathedral on Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th April at 7.30pm. A flyer and poster for the lectures will be available shortly.

    35 Students engaged in ALM Elective Training
    A total of 35 students from parishes across the diocese are involved with ALM elective training. Over the next 6 months they will receive training to equip them to serve their parishes. A number of this year's students are studying a second ALM course to develop their ministries further and six students are following the Mission Shaped Ministry course as part of the ALM Mission Enabler elective.     There will be a consultation for SSMs who are NOT in employment, including clergy offering ministry in a voluntary, unpaid or non-stipended capacity.
    These consultations offer us opportunity to reflect vocationally and missiologically according to one's ministry context.     Laurie Green recently retired as Bishop of Bradwell, in the Diocese of Chelmsford. Laurie has been involved in many exciting initiatives, including presenting the case internationally for an Anglican Network on Global Urbanisation. He is the Chelmsford Diocesan Lead Bishop on issues of Regeneration and Development. Laurie spent seven years of his ministry as Principal of the Aston Training Scheme, and as a priest in inner-city Birmingham and London.     Easter Monday Youth Pilgrimage 9 April
    It's that time again when young people from across the Diocese gather together at Canterbury Cathedral for the Easter Monday Youth Pilgrimage. All the relevant details remain much the same as last year: mini-pilgrimages leave from around Canterbury at either 10.00am or 10:30am with the service beginning in the cathedral at 12.00noon. The ePack with more detail will be distributed shortly, and will be available from the ChYP's page on the Diocesan Website as usual.

    ChYP's Seed Grants
    Exciting news! The Children, Schools & Young People Framework is now able to offer one-off seed-grants for Parishes, Benefices or Deaneries to support their Ministry with Children & Young People. Grants will normally be awarded for amounts up to £1000, but applications for amounts up to £5000 will be considered. Application Criteria and Application forms will be made available in early February with the closing date set as 20 April 2012. Details from Murray mwilkinson@diocant.org

    'Rev' Co-creator 'in conversation'

    Calling young organists
    The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) is offering organ scholarships to two young organists at the 2012 Summer Course for Young People at Bath. The successful candidates will play the four-manual Klais organ in the city's splendid Abbey church; the setting for some of the choral services. They will assist the Course Organist in playing for rehearsals and services during the popular week-long event at Kingswood School; this year's course runs from 20 - 26 August.     £10,000 prize for commissioning new art for parish churches
    Parishes throughout England can apply for a £10,000 prize for the best developed proposal for commissioning a new work of art for their church. The Church Buildings Council prize, funded by The Jerusalem Trust, will be offered to an excellently prepared proposal and not for a particular artwork. The criterion is available on "Commissioning New Art for Churches". The deadline for the first stage is 29 February 2012. At this stage the parish must explain: Why? What? What is it for? Where?     Grants for energy efficient projects
    A new Fund, announced by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, DECC, will provide grants for around 200 community organisations, including churches, to undertake energy efficiency projects and renewable energy generation in their area.     Mission opportunities for young people
    Latin Link, a Christian mission agency in Latin America is looking to recruit young people to serve the Latin American evangelical church in the form of Step teams.     Rev Jim Smith is Director of the Serving Africa Mission has been working in Africa for nearly 30 years. He has written a piece on Nigeria. He writes: "Recently, we have seen the emergence of a fundamentalist Islamic stream, doubtless being fed from further north - Boko Haram. They have already killed many people - mostly Christians, although bombs have no faith or conscience, and as usual, the killers don't really care who they kill."     Grants for Parish Community Engagement - CCF's new focus for 2012 and beyond
    A new funding focus to support bridge building church community projects has been approved by the Church and Community Fund (CCF) for an initial three years starting today. The new focus will direct funding towards projects concerned with neighbourhood renewal, community projects with church growth at their core and to support replication of successful community projects that can easily be copied and rolled out elsewhere.     Christian Aid Week 2012: 13 - 19 May
    In Christian Aid Week 2012 we will be celebrating how new tools, farming techniques and community action groups are transforming towns and villages in Sierra Leone.
