Archbishop of Canterbury to be Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge
Archbishop Rowan Williams has announced his acceptance of the position of Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge with effect from January 2013. He will therefore be stepping down from the office of Archbishop of Canterbury at the end of December 2012.

Archbishop Rowan's Lent Lectures
Archbishop Rowan will be giving three lectures during Holy Week on 'St Paul: the Man and the Letters'. Titles will be (i) Outsiders and Insiders: Paul's Social World; (ii) The Universal Welcome: Paul's Disturbing Idea; (iii) The New Creation: Paul's Christian Universe. The Lectures take place in the Nave of Canterbury Cathedral on Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th April at 7.30pm. A short sequence of passion music and readings, led by the Cathedral choir, follow each lecture.

Easter Monday Youth Pilgrimage 9 April 2012
It's that time again when young people from across the Diocese gather together at Canterbury Cathedral for the Easter Monday Youth Pilgrimage. Nine Days of Prayer - Novena 2012

Christians through the ages have used the days between Ascension and Pentecost to pray for the renewing power of the Holy Spirit. Following on from the 24/7 Year of Discipleship and the value many found in this time of prayer in 2011, Bishop Trevor has asked again that churches and individuals use these nine days to pray. Laurie Green recently retired as Bishop of Bradwell, in the Diocese of Chelmsford. Laurie has been involved in many exciting initiatives, including presenting the case internationally for an Anglican Network on Global Urbanisation. He is the Chelmsford Diocesan Lead Bishop on issues of Regeneration and Development. ChYP's Seed Grants
Exciting news! The Children, Schools & Young People Framework is now able to offer one-off seed-grants for Parishes, Benefices or Deaneries to support their Ministry with Children & Young People. Grants will normally be awarded for amounts up to £1000, but applications for amounts up to £5000 will be considered. Cathedral backs UK initiative to find young singers to sing for the Queen
Canterbury Cathedral is backing an initiative to find young singers to join a Jubilee choir who will sing for the Queen as part of the Diamond Jubilee Service this June at St Paul's Cathedral. All boys and girls aged 10-13, who sing regularly in a church, school or other choir, are eligible to apply to join the choir. Local auditions are being held at Canterbury Cathedral on May 5th. A total of 40 children will be chosen from across the UK to perform at the service in London on 5 June. For more information:

Budget 2012: VAT to be charged at 20% on alterations to listed churches
Unexpectedly the Chancellor announced in the Budget that from 1 October 2012 approved alterations to listed buildings - which, unlike repairs and maintenance that are currently zero-rated - will be charged at the standard rate of 20 percent. This will cost the Church of England up to £20 million per annum on works to its 12,500 listed church buildings, assuming of course parishes and cathedrals can now afford to go ahead and undertake the works required. Help with creating church guides
A new not-for-profit website which links volunteer writers and researchers with churches in need of a new church guides has been launched. aims for every parish church to create a guide to its history, architecture and community, to help inform visitors, preserve Britain's built heritage and encourage links with communities. The matching service is entirely free to use and open to any place of worship. Volunteers include university students or recent graduates, willing to conduct original research for local parish churches.

Ecclesiastical launches 2013 Ministry Bursary Awards
Specialist church and heritage insurer Ecclesiastical has opened its annual Ministry Bursary Awards to provide financial support to members of the clergy for sabbatical breaks and projects. The awards for 2013 are open for applications until 30 September 2012. Judging of the applications will take place in November and awards will be made during December 2012. St George's Day Bell Ringing
Churches are taking part in ringing out their bells on 23 April 2012 to take pride in saluting England's Patron Saint. It is a simple but significant act to remind a wider audience of our Christian heritage for it not only celebrates our particular saint, but it is an especially English musical genre rung out from glorious English architecture by wonderful ringers. Grants for energy efficient projects
A new Fund, announced by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, DECC, will provide grants for around 200 community organisations, including churches, to undertake energy efficiency projects and renewable energy generation in their area. For information on applying to the fund visit:

Free pack helps churches respond to the 2012 Games
A vast compendium of resources is now available to help churches make the most of their engagement with the 2012 Games. The 48 page publication offers churches a host of practical ways to engage with their community during the Games and the Torch Relay, which will come within ten miles of most of the UK churches. Grants for Parish Community Engagement - CCF's new focus for 2012 and beyond
A new funding focus to support bridge building church community projects has been approved by the Church and Community Fund (CCF) for an initial three years starting today. The new focus will direct funding towards projects concerned with neighbourhood renewal, community projects with church growth at their core and to support replication of successful community projects that can easily be copied and rolled out elsewhere. Christian Aid Week 2012: 13-19 May
In Christian Aid Week 2012 we will be celebrating how new tools, farming techniques and community action groups are transforming towns and villages in Sierra Leone.
