Strategic Development for Deaneries

"That which we fail to choose is chosen for us."

The AIM of strategic development for deaneries is to help nurture a collaborative learning community for God's pilgrim people across the Diocese. We do this by providing Area Deans and Strategic Units with the support that they need as they make crucial decisions and invest time, energy and resources in new directions for the future.

How might a Deanery engage with this process?

There are three main ways:

  • a consultation between the Area Dean and the Director of Ministry & Training (Rob Mackintosh) to discuss the issues, areas of support, and interventions that might be needed to help the deanery move forward;
  • a '3M' meeting between Officers in Mission, Ministry and Resources with the Area Dean and members of Chapter and Deanery Synod to explore specific issues and strategies that face the parishes and clusters of the Deanery;
  • a Deanery Conference, typically a three day residential, whose outcome is a coherent strategy for the deanery and its strategic units to work upon in mission, ministry and resourcing the work of the Diocese at local ministry level.
    It is then up to the Deanery and its clusters or strategic units to make their own Responses to Mission, Ministry & Training, and Stewardship.
  • This process takes place in the context of a Vision for 2020,and expressing the values of Growing Forward Together as a Holy People, a Learning People, a Missionary and Evangelistic People, Travelling Light.
